AUTHOR Q&A: Gaming Hell Christmas by Kathy L Wheeler and Amanda McCabe @kathylwheeler @rararesources

Morning everyone. Today I’m on the blog tour for Gaming Hell Christmas by Kathy L Wheeler and Amanda McCabe, and am thrilled to bring you a Q&A with Kathy…..enjoy!

q&a with Kathy l wheeler

Genre(s):

Contemporary and Historical Romance

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I love sports. The NFL. I used to have tickets to the NBA in Oklahoma City until Kevin Durant broke up with us. One year, I missed attending only six home games. There were 33 that year. I adore musical theatre. Love, love, love musical theatre. And, karaoke. And, travel.

What inspired you to start writing?

I had just gotten a new computer. I just wanted to type. So I was googling “writing prompts.” One that popped up was “What if Cinderella’s slipper fit one of her evil stepsisters.” I thought, I love Cinderella. I can write that. That was in 2006. Now I have five books in my Cinderella Series.

How many books have you written and published?

I have twenty-six right now. And another coming out January 4th.

Which book, out of all the books you have written, is your favourite and why?

I don’t have a favourite. It seems like the one you are working on becomes your fav.

How do you choose the names of your characters?

It just has to fit the personality of the character. Time period is factor too.

Which of your characters would you want to be stranded on an island with, and why?

The book coming out in January has a duke. I think I really like him.

Who is your favourite author and which of their books is your favourite, and why?

I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips. And I love This Heart of Mine. It’s funny and soooo touching and heartbreaking.

What is the first thing you can remember writing?

In 9th grade I remember starting a story of a girl who was kind of like Nancy Drew. She had an older brother. But that’s all I can remember.

What other jobs have you done other than being an author?

Oh, dear. This is a really long list but here goes: Movie theatre concessions, fast food worker, receptionist, secretary: Real Estate Office, Marketing Office, Oil Company. Computer programmer, author, AFLAC salesperson. That’s all I can remember. 😊

If you could get in a time machine and had one chance to travel, where would you go? (Backwards or forwards!)

Well, if I wasn’t stuck forever, I think I might like to visit medieval and Regency times.

If you could have one conversation with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I loved Tom Landry. He was the coach of the Dallas Cowboys for 29 years.

What are your favourite things to do?

Sing karaoke, travel to different cities/countries.

What is the strangest thing that has ever happened to you?

This could get me in trouble. The last time I was in New York, a friend and I were having a drink upstairs at Sardi’s. There was this guy talking about something. When he came to the bar to pay his tab, he said something about this place: Marie’s Crises. I ended up going with him to meet a bunch of his friends. It was a piano bar that did showtunes only. It was sooooo much fun.

If you could give your younger writing self any advice what would it be?

Start sooner.

And finally, tell us about your most recent book and where we can find it?

Gaming Hell Christmas is the first of three books Amanda McCabe and I are doing, where mysteries abound at London’s newest Hell. My story is about a duke’s illegitimate daughter. She just wants a home of her own without her siblings bursting in at any given time.

about the authors

Amanda wrote her first romance at the age of sixteen–a vast historical epic starring all her friends as the characters, written secretly during algebra class (and her parents wondered why math was not her strongest subject…)

She’s never since used algebra, but her books have been nominated for many awards, including the RITA Award, the Romantic Times BOOKReviews Reviewers’ Choice Award, the Booksellers Best, the National Readers Choice Award, and the Holt Medallion.  She lives in Santa Fe with a Poodle, a cat, a wonderful husband, and a very and far too many books and royal memorabilia collections.

When not writing or reading, she loves taking dance classes, collecting cheesy travel souvenirs, and watching the Food Network–even though she doesn’t cook.

Amanda also writes as Laurel McKee for Grand Central Publishing, the Elizabethan Mystery Series as Amanda Carmack, and the Manor Cat Mystery Series as Eliza Casey.

Kathy L Wheeler loves the NFL, the NBA, musical theater (don’t ask how her how many times she’s seen Phantom of the Opera (12); or Wicked (7), travel, (Europe, Grand Cayman, Mexico, All over the US), reading (practically a book a night), writing (25 published books and counting) and karaoke (well… what can I say). She assists other authors in critiquing, formatting, and creating covers for their publishing dreams.

She writes contemporary and historical stories where the heroines save themselves and the heroes who honor their courage with suspense and humor.

She migrated from Texas, to Oklahoma to the Pacific Northwest with her musically talented, lawyer husband, her adorable dog Angel (who lives up to her name…mostly).
