Ella Welford’s done with love. After having her fingers burnt, she’s been resolutely single for the last year and has sworn to stay that way.
Joss Campion’s still reeling from a messy divorce and has vowed never to open his heart to love again.
Growing up in the picturesque village of Lytell Stangdale, with the North Yorkshire Moors as their playground, Joss and Ella were best friends. The pair were inseparable.
Until the day something happened to ruin their friendship and Joss moved away.
An urgent telephone call summons Joss back to the village. His father’s been rushed to hospital and he’s needed to run the farm. When he returns, with his loyal canine companion, Sid, in tow, it isn’t long before he realises things aren’t as they seem. Why is his brother, Rich, being so evasive? And why does he get the impression the farm’s in trouble?
Teaching Assistant, Ella, has just broken up for the Christmas holidays and is looking forward to spending more time on her parents’ farm, tending her variety of rescue animals and recharging her batteries.
It isn’t long before the pair run into one another and sparks of attraction begin to fly – not that either of them will admit to it. But, just before Christmas, they find themselves thrown together in an unexpected turn of events as a fierce snow blizzard rages around them.
Could this be the moment that changes everything? Or is their past too big to ignore?
One thing’s for certain, life’s never dull in this little corner of the North Yorkshire Moors.
Join Ella and Joss – and all the usual Lytell Stangdale characters – for a heartwarming festive read.
Ella is looking forward to having a break from school over Christmas and spending time with her family. Joss on the other hand is about to get a very different Christmas than planned. After receiving a call from his brother to let him know his estranged Dad is in hospital, he has to drop everything and head back his little home village of Lytell Stangdale to look after the farm. But he’s not looking forward to going back. It’s been 18 years and he didn’t leave on good terms…..not only that he left his best friend Ella behind….But can he reintegrate into the village? Will the villagers forgive him for the things he’s done? And will the sparks that fly between Ella and Joss when they remelt turn into something more, or are they destined to friendship forever?
This is a lovely festive, heartwarming romance. The majority of the characters are all so lovely. Ella is wonderful and I liked her from the very start. You just want her to be happy because she’s such a warm and lovely person. Joss has had some bad press, but is really ashamed of his previous behaviour and wants to make amends. Despite what we know about him from the start, I really liked him and that only grew throughout the book. His dog Sid is (obviously!) my favourite – anyone that didn’t like Sid, wasn’t worth knowing about!! Joss’ brother Rich is pretty shady – there’s something about him from the start, and things will come out as the story moves forwards….
The setting is delightful. A cosy little village with a warm and welcoming pub, little shops and a community that will pull together to help everyone out. As with small communities, it’s hard to keep secrets but this works out for the best in the end….. The farmhouses sounded super cosy, and just made me want to settle down with a hot chocolate next to the aga (I don’t have one!)
The plot will warm your heart. Joss has been through so much, and you’ll really want the best for him, as well as routing for him and Ella! There were some complete surprises in this as secrets unravelled. And I loved how Joss and Ella rebuilt their friendship, and how others made amends.
So if you’re looking for a cosy, warm and festive romance in a wintery community setting, then you should check this out. Recommended by me.
